Saturday morning, Sonny Rooney, Dawn (Ingle)
Hunt, Zach Pies, Salina Pethtel and I met at the park to get things ready. Special thanks go out to Zach, Dawn and Salina
for their invaluable help. I lead an extemely boring life, so being up until midnight the night before meant that I
overslept that morning. If it weren't for their help, we may have all died of heat exhaustion before we got to eat!
Also, special thanks to my dad, Tim Payne, for putting on his clown costume and makeup to come out and entertain the kids,
especially in that heat.
I was really happy to see so many of the
parents in our class show up. I think that we must have some of the cutest kids that I have ever seen! Most
of us agreed that there were more children present than adults, but they wouldn't hold still long enough for us to get a head
count!
After some problems with the charcoal, we
got things rolling. We handed out squirt guns to the kids for a little heat relief, and they provided lots of laughs
with their antics. The buckets of half-melted ice holding the soda were also great sources of entertainment.
We had quite a bit of food left over, which
we managed to put to good use. Zach Pies is active with the Big Brother/Big Sister program, and the extras were donated
to the program in the name of the class.
